Dishoom

A couple of years ago I visited the Covent Garden Dishoom and to be honest- I do not know why I haven’t been back, we had an incredible dinner and it is in the heart of theatre land. There was a small wait for the table but the Bombay coladas in the bar downstairs made up for this. Although, I have heard rumours of people queuing much longer than we had to, fortunately one of the perks of being a paralegal is the early finish and I think we arrived a smidge after 5:30pm. For dinner (after 5:45pm) bookings for groups of 6+ are allowed otherwise it is a queue situ.

Anyway, the point of this blog post is BRUNCH, do not be put off by “having an Indian for breakfast, that is a weird thought” – NO, believe me its phenomenal!! There is Naan better than Dishoom in my book for breakfast/brunch (sorry couldn’t help throwing in a poor joke).

We ate at the Shoreditch branch- FYI enter on Boundary street and not from Andina road side (it has a very cool covered veranda outside- ask when you arrive if you would like to sit here rather this to the main restaurant). The décor is great with large low hung old-fashioned ceiling fans, old mirrors, chandeliers grouped together and wooden tables. The staff are very friendly, I would recommend booking for breakfast or lunch as soon as you can grab a friend to join you.

Now the main event- THE FOOD- its really super! We went to town and chose to each try the bacon/sausage naan. The bacon naan is “a Dishoom signature dish, and deserving of all its accolades” according to their menu. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We shared a house porridge, (Organic porridge oats cooked with milk, banana and sweet Medjool dates. A never-ending portion: if you wish for more, you need only ask). This must be the best veggie friendly breakfast around.

We may have also shared a fire toast, chunky slices of bloomer bread are buttered and thrown onto the grill where they become char-striped. Served with home-made preserves: pineapple-pink-peppercorn jam, and tangy orange marmalade with star anise.

I cannot recommend Dishoom enough!

Gails Artisan Bakery

How to start the weekend the right way? Pop down to GAIL’s for some yummy just about anything. The counter is a mezze of cakes, quiches, stuffed cheesy croissants, cinnamon swirls, sausage rolls and much much more.

Best bit- the deliciously strong wake up coffee.

Worst bit- have to fight your way for a table (*do not be instantly put off- there are a few extra seats past the counter and for the brave there is a terraced area outside).

I need to go back and purchase their sour cherry and currant sourdough (the tester on the counter left me wanting more).

The Ivy Chelsea Garden

I have been to the Ivy Chelsea Garden before but only for Dinner and Lunches. Breakfast is a game changer!

How can you not fall in love with this restaurant. It is a breath of fresh air in Chelsea.  Everything down to the chocolate ivy leaf design on my cappuccino is spot on. The service is impeccable and very attentive from the moment you walk through the front door.

My date chose very healthily and me not so much but it meant we gave the menu a thorough going over.

The view from the other side of the table looked fruity and fresh with granola, yogurt and berries.

We also bravely tried the Grapefruit in an attempt to put a little zing in our morning step! IMG_7815

I can attest to the fact the Eggs Royale (with a little avocado on the side) was one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of bumping into! (egggscellent- groooan but couldn’t resist).

To finish, we tried the Beet juice- Beetroot, apple and carrot. So delicious.

Next time… I will pray for sunshine and treat myself to a garden table.

ps. If you are going to try this venue can I make one suggestion? Try the salted caramel expresso martini (I didn’t have one today because well our table was bright and early- but… it is so good like winning willy wonka’s golden ticket. Goode & Wright, Notting Hill

Confession= I love Sundays. I love Notting Hill… I now love Goode & Wright too! It is truely eggcelent.

My mum would sometimes take me to W11 and we would enjoy meandering along Portobello road and soaking up the eclectic atmosphere, fabulous foody smells, the vibrant colours and loud music. I remember these weekend adventures really fondly and still do not mind traveling nearly the whole length of the central line to get there. IMG_6850

I love this colourful rainbow of patterns as you walk under the bridge.

IMG_6863Advice to anyone wanting our window seat brunching spot- call ahead or book for 10/10:30 and request the best seats in the house.

Our waitress was fabulous and very attentive. The coffee was 5/5 deliciousness!

IMG_6854IMG_6856I was feeling absolutely starving and attempted to tackle the full english breakfast- this is not for the faint hearted. It arrived and my heart skipped a beat it was about three times the size I had eggspected! My lovely friend chose the sweet potato hash which looked fab too.

Sea Containers, Mondrian

It is a sunny Saturday in London, what do you want to be doing? I like to meet up with some good friends and put the world to rights.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and offers a bottomless Bloody Mary or Prosecco brunch on the weekend. We made ourselves fully acquainted with this upon arrival.

We were seated at half past twelve on the terrace but enjoyed a drink at the bar beforehand.

All the staff were attentive and polite. One very special lady stole our hearts as she made the meanest bloody marys in town, secret ingredient shredded parsnips. FACT.
